Grade 1 Bolsters Writing and Public Speaking Skills with Original Book Reviews

Are you looking for a new book to add to your collection? The first grade has you covered!
First graders have been learning how to clearly and efficiently express their thoughts and opinions during their Opinion Writing Unit. In order to bring these lessons to life, students were tasked with putting together their very own book reviews, highlighting some of their favorite literary selections from over the course of the school year.
The project was broken into two main components. The first was to write out a review of a book of their choosing, which helped them further develop their handwriting skills, strengthen their abilities in organizing their thoughts and opinions, and bolster their writing skills. The second component was the recording of a video review, which helped students build confidence and practice their public speaking skills. All together, the project culminated in several unique, cheerful, and thorough reviews that not only fortified skills learned in the classroom, but also provided students with the opportunity to further celebrate their ever-growing love of reading.
