Léman Goes Off-Broadway for United in Song
February 22, 2018
On Tuesday, February 13, the entire Léman community came together for "United in Song: A Léman Community Concert". This special evening was a unique, one-night only performance which featured elementary, middle, and high school students as well as faculty and parents from Léman performing with college students and professional Broadway, classical, jazz, and country artists. Performed at the off-Broadway theater New World Stages, the concert also featured a star-studded line-up of guest performers, including Chely Wright, Art Baron, Derrick Baskin, Bill Hayes, Martha Hyde, Tatiana Lofton, and Cady Finlayson.
A highlight of the evening was the world-premiere performance of "If We Stand As One," a song commissioned by the Léman Manhattan Fine Arts Department and composed by Jim Papoulis to benefit the Tyler Clementi Foundation, which seeks to prevent bullying through inclusion, assertion of dignity, and acceptance. "If We Stand As One" will be published along with lesson plans for an anti-bullying unit and will be available to youth choir directors all over the world. Students from Léman Manhattan will record the song and Mr. Papoulis will be donating a portion of the publishing proceeds to the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
