Building Analytical and Investigation Skills in Lower School Science

October 18, 2018

Léman's Science Department provides students with inquiry-based experiences that allow them to investigate and explore the scientific principles of the world around them so they can discover the complexities and beauty of science through the scientific method.

Léman's Lower School Science Lab exposes students to a variety of experiments that foster their natural curiosity. Grades 1-5 have dedicated weekly science instruction with Ms. Wolber.

5th Grade is currently studying a 'Mixtures and Solutions' unit. They focus on answering the question: "How can you determine which salt solution is more concentrated?" The students divide into groups, creating two solutions containing different amounts of salt. After dissolving the salt, they determine the mass and the volume of each solution to discover which one is more concentrated.

Stay tuned for more news on additional Lower School Science experiments through the year, where students will test their own understandings through designing, conducting, and reflecting on experimental investigations.
