Forensics Students Investigate Trace Evidence at Battery Park

Our 11th and 12th Grade Forensics students took their studies outside the classroom during a hands-on investigation at Battery Park, where they worked in teams to examine soil, seeds, and other trace materials found across a variety of surfaces. Applying Locard’s Exchange Principle - the forensic concept that contact between two objects can result in the transfer of material - students carefully observed, documented, and analyzed the evidence they encountered. The field investigation gave students an opportunity to put forensic principles into practice while developing skills in observation, documentation, and scientific reasoning. By examining seemingly ordinary materials in their surroundings, students explored how trace evidence can provide meaningful information about interactions between people, objects, and environments.
