December 21, 2016

Junior Simone Malekar began an internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital's Weill Cornell Medical Center this October, where she has been working with surgery fellow Dr. Omer Kaymakcalan. Simone, who was born in Dubai and started at Léman in the 9th Grade, has been assisting in a research project on how mouse tissue growth-rate correlates with human growth-rate, with the goal of eventually being able to regenerate human tissue to heal burns and injuries. Simone was invited to work on this trial with the help of Science Department Chair Dr. Dan Ajerman. She plans to apply to more internships in the future, with the goal of working towards a career in medicine.
