Senior Spotlight - Linda Lin

March 16, 2017

When Linda Lin started at Léman as a junior last year, she was already on her way to becoming a successful filmmaker. A full IB diploma candidate, Linda moved to New York from Hangzhou, China last year along with her mother and brother, a 2nd Grader at Léman. She worked on a commercial film crew as a replay operator as well as led a 15 person film crew in Beijing, where she wrote a script, selected lead actors, and directed and edited a movie, which she then submitted to New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, where she will enroll next fall as a film major.

"What I love about Léman is how diverse it is, as well as how supportive the community is. I'm excited to attend NYU, because it reminded me of Léman in a lot of ways."

While managing the rigor of being a full IB diploma candidate, Linda also finds the time to volunteer as a Mandarin tutor, as well as participate in the Léman International Festival. Her film, "Stronger" won the best script award at the First Annual Léman Film Festival. She has also spent her summers working on her filmmaking passion at a summer directing program at the New York Film Academy and a summer photography program at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

Linda feels prepared for college because of the rigor of her IB courses. "It taught me how to schedule my time well, research and work independently, as well as how to study," all skills she feels will serve her well in college.  "The IB was intense, but I feel like I'll be ahead (of other students) because I did it."
