When senior Jack Jameson moved to New York City from London for his junior year of High School, he was excited about a new experience. Léman's international community appealed to Jack, who lived in Minnesota, California, and London before moving to New York for his father's job. "Although I went to an American school in London it was a very international community, which I also liked about Léman when I visited," he said. The International Baccalaureate, which one of his teachers in London recommended, also intrigued him.

Between being a full IB Diploma candidate, his leadership roles as Treasurer of the Student Government, a Léman Student Ambassador, and a member of the National Honor Society and the Volunteering Club, as well as his commitment to the basketball team, Jack also started the website New York Sports Hub (NYSH), where he oversaw more than 70 teen sportswriters covering professional sports in New York. Jack took 2nd place in Seton Hall University's Pirates Pitch entrepreneurship competition for his work with this initiative.

This fall, Jack will be enrolling in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a member of its highly selective Honors Carolina program. Jack always knew he wanted to go to the UNC. "My dad went to UNC and I came home from the hospital in UNC gear, so that was always my first choice," he said. But when it came time for college applications he kept an open mind. "I started with what I liked about North Carolina and compared it to other schools I was interested in," he says, " but of all the schools he applied to, he kept coming back to UNC as the right choice. "I like that there is a good balance between student life and academics," he said, "which is something that I really liked about Léman as well."

When asked what advice he would give to juniors and seniors starting the college application process, Jack said, "it's important to manage your time well in the IB diploma program. It's a difficult workload but not overwhelming if you balance your social life, extracurricular activities, and academics. College will expect a lot of you, but if you succeed at Léman, you will be prepared."
