As a full IB diploma candidate, Secretary of the National Honor Society, a Léman Student Ambassador, Co-Captain of the Varsity Track Team, and a member of the Black Student Union, Amarachi Iheanyichukwu '17 has embraced a variety of leadership roles at Léman. "It's been great to see Léman grow and to grow along with it," she said.

In the fall, Amarachi will be attending Colgate University, which she chose because of its academic excellence and study abroad programs. "I want to challenge myself by double majoring and I think Colgate will provide me with the flexibility to do that," she said. She feels ready for that next step because of her experience with the International Baccalaureate program. "I think it will be a lot easier to transition into the rigor of university because of the IB. The IB teaches you to write convincingly, think critically, and read with understanding," she said, "It teaches you a sense of independence because you're not always looking to your teachers for the right answer. You have to find the best answer on your own."

Amarachi credits the dedicated faculty at Léman for preparing her for the next step. "I've kept up relationships with teachers I had when I first arrived at Léman because they pushed me and challenged me," she said, "At Léman, there is an abundance of great teachers. I think you can tell when a teacher loves what they do."
