From Our Head of School

Dear Families,

Welcome to Léman Manhattan, a global learning community building the next generation of critical thinkers, stewards of the planet, and international peacemakers.

Selecting a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. I invite you to explore Léman, where we deliver academic rigor in a nurturing environment, and celebrate the interests and talents of every child.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, we provide students with critical thinking skills and breadth and depth across disciplines to stand out in admission to top colleges and universities and make an impact in their communities and beyond.

Starting in our Center for Early Childhood Education and continuing through the Upper School, we use an inquiry-based approach to learning that builds conceptual understanding, creativity and communication skills. Léman students innovate and collaborate, helping them to become informed and engaged citizens of the world. By kindergarten, our students have the literacy and numeracy competencies that enable them to meet their academic journey with success. We graduate students who are inquiring, open-minded, and resilient risk-takers.

In our increasingly complex world, students need self-awareness and flexibility that empowers them to take on new challenges. They need to work with groups of diverse individuals, who may have perspectives and experiences different than their own. They need to work across geographies and disciplines, with integrity and empathy. This “global citizenship” cannot be taught; it must be cultivated through experiences from an early age. In our truly international school, with a globally-minded curriculum and students representing 50 different nationalities, we encourage children at all levels and ages to share their viewpoints and exercise their own values, while respecting those of others.

It’s never been a more exciting time to be part of Léman. As we usher in our second decade, we couple the history of our namesake sister school Collège du Léman in Switzerland, one of the world’s premier international schools, with the innovation and energy of a school unencumbered by the dictates of convention. Since our founding, our community has celebrated the graduation of four senior classes, and grown from 50 to more than 700 students. We have also recognized the individual accomplishments of every child along their educational journey. With a strong partnership between home and school, each student’s potential is limitless.

I personally look forward to welcoming you to Léman, and to being your partner in your child’s education.
